Self Confidence in Your Child

If confidence is inculcated in the child right from the beginning, he will grow up to be a successful personality. Confidence is the key to success. This is a common saying but I got an opportunity to actually observe it in the last 15 years. I have noticed my friend since she was in school with me. She was neither talented nor intelligent. She was also not the best student in class but she was very confidence she always used to say “I can do it”. After graduation, she joined a corporation. I saw her climb the corporate ladder, and finally land in a very prominent, central position at her company. I saw her take on big projects that took major skills, She just attacked each project using this “can do” attitude, and she always managed to handle them successfully I was amazed at her achievements. From the above incident I came to only one conclusion that you can win with confidence.

It is important that our child develops strong confidence within him. This is an important aspect of parenting.

Here are certain suggestions using which you can generate a lot of confidence.

1. “You can do it”. This is a small sentence that you must use with your child as many times as possible. Also teach him to say “I can do it” for all the challenges he takes up. When solving a math problem again confidence plays a very important role. A student who lacks confidence will not make any effort in trying to solve the problem himself. He will easily say “I can’t do it” or “it’s impossible to solve this”. A student with strong confidence will try until he finds the solution.  Help your child, by reminding him that he can do it. Teach him to say to himself that “I can do it!”
2. Never criticize. Do not check your child if he is doing something incorrectly. He will gain a lot of confidence if he manages to find the right method to do that work himself. Suppose your child is trying to write holding the pencil in an improper manner and he realizes that he is holding the pencil in the wrong manner. If he is trying to hold it correctly let him try. To help him you can just sit besides him and do some writing work so that he can observe your manner to hold the pencil. If he learns it himself he will develop a lot of confidence.
3. Appreciate. Praise your child on all his big and small achievements. Praise him for his good efforts too. If your child learns a new skill, appreciate him with full interest. All this will help in encouraging him and boosting up his confidence.
4. At the end of the day. When your child goes to bed discuss his events of the day with him. The last talk before he goes off to sleep should be a positive experience of the day. You should also praise him for at least one activity that day.
5. Use some positive affirmations with your child. You can use something like this, “You are so smart and getting smarter day by day” or “Its great that you are learning more and more day by day” or “You learn very quickly”. You need to write some positive affirmations to be used when your child has a bad experience. Use affirmations whenever you get a chance to use them. Do not miss a single opportunity. This will increase his confidence.
6. Your child’s confidence is affected by the community he lives in. once the child starts going to school, his teachers, classmates and friends also affect his confidence. You must take special care in choosing a suitable school for your child. When keeping a maid or servant, keep in mind how he/she may affect the confidence of the child. When you choose a day care or a baby sitter. Choose one with a positive environment. If your child is grown up, meet his teaches and friends to make sure that they are positive, gentle and respectable.
7. Your child should have full confidence in you he should be able to discuss anything with you. If something negative happens, you can help him to cope with it in a positive way this will make him get rid of painful memories.

All your efforts will help him to gain a lot of confidence and become a great personality, a personality full of confidence. He will win in whatever he does.
